Gary Smith is the Founder and CEO of The Helping Hands Project, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential resources, support, and advocacy for individuals and families in need. Since establishing the organization on September 6, 2016, Gary has been committed to uplifting communities through charitable initiatives, outreach programs, and empowerment efforts.
A dedicated servant leader, Gary is a 10-year U.S. Army veteran (11 Bravo) who proudly served his country with honor and discipline. Following his military career, he spent 13 years as a federal contractor with the Department of Homeland Security, contributing to national security and public safety.
Beyond his professional service, Gary has devoted himself to education and mentorship. As a retired special education teacher in DeKalb, GA, he worked to shape young minds and advocate for students with unique learning needs. His passion for youth development extended to sports, where he spent 27 years as a youth basketball coach, mentoring and inspiring countless young athletes both on and off the court.
Through The Helping Hands Project, Inc., Gary continues to make a lasting impact, fostering a culture of compassion, collaboration, and meaningful change. His lifelong dedication to service, leadership, and community empowerment reflects his unwavering belief that small acts of kindness can create powerful transformations.
